Kite
Caddies Service available now!
To ensure SAFE
KITEBOARDING to be practised at all times, we
as the only IKO School in Brisbane has just launched a
Kite Caddies Service for kiteboarders in the Brisbane
region. It is aimed to help 2 groups of kiters:
Group 1
kiters - anyone who has had your lessons and
just purchased your own gear, ready to hit the water on
your own, but would like someone on their side to double
check on things, help on setup, launch and land, or
Group 2
kiters - for sensible kiters who prefer to have
the assistance to setup, launch and land on the day.
Kite caddies are
competent kiteboarders (mostly Surf Connect
Team Riders) who will act as your assistant, from setting
up, help you launch and land, and stay out with you in
the water while you are practicing piloting skills, or
when you are practicing getting on the board. Once on
the board riding, they will stand by the water’s edge
to keep an eye on you.
Note kite caddies
are NOT instructors and will not teach
you how to kite. It is NOT a lesson but
simply to give you a helping hand. Kite caddies are there
to help you to ensure you have set your kite up correctly,
help you launch, help you land, so you can enjoy the sport
in the safest possible manner.
All kite caddies
have been trained and will practise SAFE KITEBOARDING
at all times. They will carry a whistle and have 2-way
radios to communicate with our school base in an emergency.
To qualify
for the service, you must have had at least 2
lessons from a qualified Instructor, or attained
a minimum of IKO level 2 certification.
Production of IKO card is required. Competent riders can
attain IKO Certification at our school 7 days a week.
Process takes around an hour.
Caddies cost $20
per hour for group 1 and $20 per day for group 2 kiters.
Service available 7 days a week. Contact
us further information or bookings.

Kitesurfing:
Safety & Rescue Seminars 2008
Following the
overwhelming response and success from the 2007 seminars,
Surf Connect Wind & Kitesurfing School continues to
promote 'Safe Kiteboarding' to the community in Brisbane.
Thanks to the
support and assistance from the Brisbane City Council
and Surf Life Saving Australia safety seminars will continue
to run throughout 2008. These
seminars enrich every kiter's knowledge, teaching especially
those who either self taught or taught by mates, and may
not have grasped some of the basic skills and awareness,
such as self-launch/land, self-rescue, wind effects, right
of ways, or the risks and dangers of our sport, to location
guide/assessment for visiting kiters.
Topics covered
in past seminars:
All "Safe
Kiteboarding" classes are run free of charge.
Surf Connect encourages
all local schools and instructors to do the same for your
community so together we create a happy and safe environment
for both kiters and the public. Keep visting this page
to see when the next seminar is.
