This certification is only for kiters already at minimum level 3 riding level (can demonstrate they can launch, land, ride upwind, turn around and self-rescue, basically as an independent rider that causes no safety concerns to anyone around them). Certification takes about 30 minutes to an hour. Once certified, you can rent equipment from any IKO centres around the world for the rest of your life. IKO Membership is included in the price, and comes with purchase discounts and access to tuition videos on the IKO website. A must have for any kiteboarders!

Windsurf & Paddleboard lessons are normally run at high tide early mornings at Sandgate, when wind is at a manageable level and water is nice and close at our location. Tide chart can be viewed at: Sandgate Tide chart.

ATC (Assistant Instructor’s Course) – US$599 (excludes IKO fee US$199)

ITC/IEC (Instructor’s Training Course) – US$1199 (excludes IKO fee US$329)

IKO is the most recognised kiteboarding organisation in the world and most schools require you to have IKO qualifications to be considered for employment, even if you have your own country’s qualifications. Annual membership is only US$185 and that includes public liability insurance cover while you are teaching, as well as Personal Accident Cover while you are kitesurfing recreationally too.

ATC is a 5 days course (+an eLearning module) and the ITC is another 5 days course and you can become a fully qualified instructor on the last day if you pass both exams & riding assessment. All shadowing hours are included in the course so there is no need to have to do any shadowing hours for a local school before or after the course, unless you do not reach the competency level or there was no wind on the course to conduct teaching practice.
